Without population based studies we cannot know the answer to that. Our bodies are highly adaptive. I would doubt many have hypermobility syndromes, but some may to varying degrees.

Working harder is certainly part of it but it is also the duration of training. High level gymnasts and ballet dancers train 30+ hours per week. The difference in training volume between high level athletes and recreational or non-athletes is substantial and the body adapts accordingly.
