I don't think anyone has it figured out. I have published 164 articles and only a handful have reached the 1k view mark. Many are below 100.

I have found engaging with other writers helps. Having a group of writers who consistently read and comment one your stories increases early engagement.

Social media sites promote content that has early engagement. I suspect that component plays a role with Medium. Curation, headlines, publications all play a role, too/
