Great question. A recent review came out showing omega 6 are likely fine to consume and even beneficial if used as a replacement for saturated fat (e.g. seed oils instead of butter). I'm working on a story but here are a couple of points:
linoleic acid (LA) can be converted to arachidonic acid (AA), which can in turn be converted into pro-inflammatory eicosanoids, but, higher LA intakes do not linearly result in higher AA levels (differences cells regulate it differently). We find levels of AA do not result in higher systemic inflammation levels. Some eicosanoids are anti-inflammatory, too.
